Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the worsening security situation in the country following the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and recent killings in Katsina State.
Atiku described the incidents as signs of what he called a failure of leadership, stating that repeated attacks across several communities have continued despite government assurances on security improvements.
Atiku Raises Concern Over Ogbomoso Abduction
In a statement released on Tuesday through his aide, Phrank Shaibu, the former vice president expressed concern over the kidnapping incident in Ogbomoso.
He also reacted to reports that one of the abducted teachers was killed during the attack. According to him, the development reflects deeper weaknesses in Nigeria’s security structure.
Atiku criticises Tinubu over insecurity by arguing that official reactions to violent attacks have become repetitive and ineffective.
He said Nigerians continue to hear promises that perpetrators would face justice, while attacks and kidnappings persist in different parts of the country.
Katsina Killings Renew Security Concerns
The former presidential candidate also condemned the killings recorded in several communities in Katsina State.
According to him, armed groups now operate freely because they no longer fear state authority. He stated that attacks on schools and communities have increased fear among residents in many parts of the country.

Several communities in the North-West and North-Central regions have continued to report attacks despite ongoing military operations against criminal groups.

The incident has revived memories of previous mass abductions of students in states including Kaduna, Zamfara and Niger.
Parents and residents in affected areas have repeatedly called for stronger security measures around schools and rural communities.

The former vice president also questioned reports alleging attempts to restrict the circulation of graphic evidence linked to recent attacks.

According to Atiku, the Federal Government must focus on protecting lives and rebuilding public trust in national security institutions.
He called for the immediate rescue of all abducted victims in Oyo State and urged authorities to strengthen operations in vulnerable communities.
