A major Abuja blackout disrupted electricity supply across several strategic locations in the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, confirmed that the outage affected the Presidential Villa, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Supreme Court and several residential and commercial districts.
AEDC Explains Cause of Abuja Blackout
In a public notice issued on Saturday, AEDC attributed the Abuja blackout to a technical fault affecting power supply in multiple parts of the city.
The company said areas affected include Asokoro, Central Area, Lugbe, Garki Areas 2, 3, 7 and 8, alongside several government offices and diplomatic zones.
The outage also impacted major institutions such as the National Hospital, National Planning Commission, embassies, military facilities and business locations around the capital city.
Airport, State House Among Affected Locations
The Abuja blackout extended to important facilities including the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, State House, Supreme Court, National Judicial Council and the National Assembly Annex.
Other locations listed by AEDC include River Park Estate, Aviation Village, Airforce Base, Customs Quarters, Immigration offices and parts of Airport Road.
Several hotels, markets and residential communities were also affected by the power disruption.
TCN Engineers Working on Power Restoration
AEDC stated that engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, are currently working to restore electricity supply to the affected locations.
The company apologised to customers over the inconvenience caused by the Abuja blackout and appealed for patience while repair works continue.
