The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has announced a planned six-hour electricity outage that will affect several communities in Ogun State on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
According to the company, the temporary blackout is necessary to allow engineers carry out scheduled maintenance on the 40MVA 132/33KV power transformer located at the McPherson Transmission Substation.
TCN explained that the maintenance exercise will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end by 4:00 p.m. During this period, residents and businesses in some affected areas may experience interruption in electricity supply.
Communities expected to be affected include McPherson, University and Ogunmakin areas under the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC.
In a statement issued by the General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company said the maintenance work is part of efforts to improve the efficiency and reliability of power supply within the transmission network.
“The exercise is aimed at carrying out preventive routine checks on the transformer to ensure optimal performance and reduce the risk of unexpected faults,” the statement noted.
TCN added that IBEDC will temporarily suspend electricity distribution to customers in the affected communities while the maintenance is ongoing.
The company also appealed to residents and business owners to remain patient during the period of interruption, assuring consumers that the planned maintenance is necessary for better service delivery in the long run.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to make alternative power arrangements ahead of the scheduled outage period.
