Residents of Eziobodo community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State were thrown into panic on Wednesday night after suspected gunmen reportedly stormed the area.
The community, which hosts the Federal University of Technology Owerri, witnessed chaos as students, traders, motorists and residents rushed to safety following reports of gunshots.
Several videos shared online showed people running in different directions while businesses and roadside activities suddenly came to a halt.
Residents And Students Flee For Safety
Eyewitnesses said the incident caused serious fear within the university environment and nearby communities.
One of the victims seen in a viral video was a commercial motorcyclist who reportedly sustained injuries during the confusion.
The man, who appeared with bandages on part of his head, explained that he narrowly escaped after taking a passenger toward Eziobodo despite warnings about suspected danger in the area.
According to him, he became suspicious after noticing unusual movements along the road before the situation escalated.
Fear Spreads Across Eziobodo Area
The reported attack forced many residents to abandon the streets while others stayed indoors for safety.
Motorists travelling through the area were also affected as tension spread across parts of Owerri West.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not officially confirmed the identities of the attackers or the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Security Concerns Grow In Imo
The latest security scare has again raised concerns among residents over safety in parts of Imo State.
Community members have called for increased security presence around Eziobodo and surrounding areas to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
