Oyo Police Dismiss Rumours of Bandit Attack in Ogbomoso Communities

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that armed bandits invaded parts of Ogbomoso and nearby communities in Oyo State.

Police authorities said investigations showed there was no attack or security breach in the affected areas, adding that calm has been restored.

Panic Spread After Security Rumours

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the police explained that panic started after rumours circulated about suspicious individuals around Are-Ago High School in Ogbomoso.

According to the statement, security operatives visited the school immediately to prevent fear from escalating into public disorder.

School Principal Explains Incident

Police said the school principal, Mrs Akanbi Ruth, informed officers that some students raised alarm after noticing unfamiliar individuals behind the school fence.

The situation reportedly caused concern among teachers and students within the school environment.

The individuals reportedly stated that they were visiting a female acquaintance to celebrate her birthday.

According to the police statement, an argument allegedly broke out between some teachers and the visitors during the encounter.

Authorities said the misunderstanding contributed to increased suspicion within the school premises.

Incident Follows Recent School Attack

The development comes days after armed attackers reportedly abducted students and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The earlier incident affected Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.

The police command warned residents against spreading false or unverified security information online or within communities.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Olugbemiga, urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative with security agencies.
