Nigerians are increasingly using Google Search and artificial intelligence tools to learn new skills, according to new data released by the tech giant. The trend shows a major shift toward self-learning and digital education across the country.
The report revealed a 90 per cent increase in Nigeria skill searches Google related to creative fields such as painting, while calligraphy has emerged as one of the fastest-growing interests among users.
Rising Demand for Creative and Digital Skills
Google said Nigerians are now relying on search tools as everyday learning assistants. The company described Search and AI as “24/7 tutors” helping users build professional and creative skills.

The company’s Head of Communications for West Africa, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, said Nigerians are actively using AI platforms to improve productivity and gain new skills.

Google also reported a surge in language learning. Searches for Italian increased by 130 per cent, while interest in Japanese doubled.
