The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank held by constitutional lawyer and human rights advocate, Professor Mike Ozekhome.
The decision was reached during the committee’s 173rd General Meeting, according to a statement released by the LPPC.
The suspension means Ozekhome is currently not permitted to present himself as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria until the conclusion of ongoing disciplinary proceedings.
Committee cites disciplinary process
The LPPC Secretary, Mr Kabiru Eniola Akanbi, said the action was taken under Paragraph 26(6) of the Guidelines for the Conferment of the SAN Rank and matters relating to the honour.
Akanbi, who is also the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, explained that the suspension will remain in place while the matter is being considered by the Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee of the LPPC.

According to the committee, the move was made to protect the reputation, dignity, and integrity of the SAN rank.
The LPPC stated that maintaining public confidence in the legal profession remains a key priority.
It added that the committee is committed to enforcing professional ethics and discipline among legal practitioners.
