Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have arrested the father of former Big Brother Naija winner Ilebaye Odiniya following an alleged domestic violence incident that sparked outrage online.
The suspect, identified as Emmanuel Odiniya, was taken into custody after a disturbing video surfaced on social media showing the reality TV star crying for help during an Instagram livestream.
The viral clip triggered widespread reactions from Nigerians, with many demanding urgent intervention from security agencies.
Police Rescue Ilebaye In Abuja
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, said officers responded to a distress call from Royal Anchor Estate in Wuye, Abuja, around midnight on Friday.
According to the police statement, officers from the Wuye Division and the Department of Operations immediately moved to the scene after receiving reports of an ongoing assault.
Police said access into the residence was initially difficult because the gate was locked.
After several attempts, officers eventually gained entry into the compound around 2:30 a.m.
Ilebaye Taken To Hospital
The police revealed that Ilebaye was rescued with visible injuries and bruises.
She and her brothers were later taken to NNPC Hospital in Abuja, where she reportedly received medical treatment.
The police added that Emmanuel Odiniya remains in custody while investigations continue into the incident.
The statement read in part:“At about 12:00 a.m., the FCT Police Command responded to a distress call reporting an ongoing physical assault on Ms. Ilebaye Odiniya Emmanuel by her father.”
The command assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.
