President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed confidence that Nigeria’s economy is gradually recovering, stating that state governments are no longer struggling to pay workers’ salaries as they did in previous years.
The President made the remarks while receiving members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum during a Sallah homage at his Lagos residence on Friday.
Tinubu Reflects on Political Journey
Speaking to the governors, Tinubu recalled the challenges he faced during his journey to the presidency, describing the process as politically demanding and legally challenging.
According to him, many political allies remained loyal despite uncertainties surrounding the economic reforms his administration would later introduce.
The President thanked governors and party members for standing by his administration during what he described as a difficult transition period.
President Says Economy Is Recovering
Tinubu said Nigeria successfully avoided economic collapse and is now witnessing positive signs of growth across key sectors.
According to him, ongoing reforms are beginning to produce measurable results, particularly in infrastructure, housing, and agriculture.
He noted that construction projects are progressing nationwide while previously abandoned projects are being revived.
States No Longer Struggling to Pay Workers
One of the key highlights of the President’s remarks was his claim that states are no longer heavily dependent on federal government interventions to meet salary obligations.
Tinubu stated that many state governments have experienced significant improvements in their financial positions compared to previous years.
According to him, the era when numerous states frequently sought emergency financial support from the federal government has largely ended.
Tinubu Urges Governors to Expand Agriculture
The President also encouraged governors to maximize agricultural opportunities within their states.
He pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects, including developments along the Sokoto-Badagry corridor, as potential drivers of food production, irrigation, and power generation.
Tinubu expressed optimism that Nigeria can achieve food sufficiency and strengthen its agricultural sector through effective use of available resources.
