The Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has concluded arrangements to vaccinate about 1,600 intending pilgrims ahead of the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
The vaccination programme is part of preparations to ensure that all pilgrims from Lagos State meet international health requirements before travelling for the annual Islamic pilgrimage.
Vaccination to Cover Key Diseases
According to the Board Secretary, AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin, the exercise will include immunisation against meningitis, yellow fever, oral polio, and influenza.
He explained that the initiative is designed to protect pilgrims and ensure compliance with global travel health standards.
Officials also called for support from Port Health Services Nigeria to guarantee a smooth and well-coordinated process.
Exercise to Begin in Ikeja
The vaccination exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday at the Shamsi Adisa Thomas Mosque Hall, located within the First Secretariat in GRA, Ikeja.
It will be conducted based on local government schedules to ensure an organised and efficient rollout.
Local Government Schedule ReleasedThe timetable released by the board outlines a phased approach:
- Agege and Somolu pilgrims will begin the exercise
- Ajeromi, Apapa, and Ojo will follow on April 21
- Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofin, and Badagry are scheduled for April 22
- Ikeja, Oshodi-Isolo, Mushin, and Surulere will be covered next
- Ikorodu, Eti-Osa, Kosofe, and Epe are fixed for April 27
- Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, and organised groups will follow on April 28
- Government officials will conclude the exercise on April 29
Vaccination Mandatory for All Pilgrims
Ajomagberin urged all intending pilgrims to strictly follow the schedule and present themselves for vaccination on their assigned dates.
He stressed that the process is compulsory, as both the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and Saudi authorities require proof of vaccination before entry into the country.
According to him, any pilgrim who fails to comply will not be allowed to participate in the Hajj.
