Atiku Abubakar has reacted to his emergence as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election, declaring that the party must now focus on winning power rather than celebrating.
The former vice president urged party members and supporters to unite behind a common goal of confronting the ruling administration in the next election cycle.
Atiku Calls for Unity After ADC Primary
Speaking after the conclusion of the party’s presidential primary, Atiku said no contestant should see themselves as defeated because the party’s focus should now shift towards national elections.
According to him, the country requires urgent political and economic reforms, insisting that opposition figures must work together.
“This is not the time to celebrate,” Atiku stated while calling for unity among party members.
Former Vice President Targets APC Government
The ADC flagbearer criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress administration, accusing it of deepening national challenges.
He described the current government as corrupt, divisive and ineffective, adding that Nigerians deserve a different direction ahead of 2027.
Atiku also stressed that the opposition must remain focused on what he called the “urgent task” of rebuilding the country.

The former presidential candidate commended the ADC leadership and primary election committee for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent process.
He further thanked party stakeholders, volunteers and supporters for their roles during the exercise.
