The Kwankwasiyya Movement has firmly denied reports suggesting that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The clarification follows widespread speculation on social media linking the former Kano State governor to an alleged internal dispute over candidate selections in Kano State.
Speaking on behalf of the movement, spokesperson Habeeb Saleh Mohammed described the reports as false and without any factual basis.
Movement Insists Party Primaries Followed Due Process
According to Mohammed, the movement conducted its primary elections in line with the timetable and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He explained that consultations and consensus-building efforts took place before candidates emerged across various positions.
The spokesperson noted that the process was completed successfully and did not generate complaints from aspirants or party stakeholders.
He added that the results of the primaries had already been forwarded to the party leadership for the next phase of the electoral process.
No Discussion About Leaving the Party
Mohammed stressed that at no point did the movement discuss the possibility of Kwankwaso leaving the NDC.
He maintained that the political group remains united and committed to its objectives within the party.
According to him, reports claiming otherwise should be ignored by members of the public and party supporters.
“The position of the movement is clear. There has never been any discussion about our leader leaving the party,” he stated.
Reports Emerged After Candidate List Controversy
The clarification comes after reports surfaced alleging disagreements between the national leadership of the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya bloc over candidate nominations in Kano State.
The controversy was linked to claims that some candidates initially submitted by the Kwankwasiyya camp were replaced as part of an arrangement designed to reflect an existing power-sharing formula within the party.
The reported agreement allegedly provided for a distribution of positions between different political interests operating within the party structure in Kano.
Kwankwasiyya Calls for Calm
Despite the speculation, the movement insists that its members remain focused on strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
Political observers say the rumours gained traction because of Kwankwaso’s influence in northern Nigeria and his significance within opposition politics.
However, the latest clarification appears aimed at ending uncertainty and reassuring supporters that the former governor remains fully committed to the NDC.
As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, the Kwankwasiyya Movement says its priority remains party unity, grassroots mobilization and strengthening its political structures across the country.
