Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant Rotimi Amaechi has pledged to transform Nigeria within four years if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Amaechi made the statement on Thursday after submitting his nomination forms at the national headquarters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja, where he also criticised the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
Bold Promise Ahead of 2027 Election
The former Rivers State governor said Nigeria’s next election should be determined by competence, experience, and track record rather than ethnic or regional considerations.
According to him, voters must evaluate candidates based on performance in public office.
He argued that many of those contesting the presidency have held positions that should serve as a reference point for their leadership ability.

Amaechi insisted that his years in public service had prepared him for national leadership, pointing to his time as governor of Rivers State and later as Minister of Transportation.
He said his record demonstrates his capacity to deliver results at scale.
The former minister stated that he is confident in his ability to reposition Nigeria’s economy and governance structure within a single presidential term.
Criticism of Current Administration
Amaechi also took aim at the Tinubu administration, describing the current economic situation as increasingly difficult for Nigerians.
He argued that recent policy decisions have worsened hardship across the country and urged voters to prioritise leadership quality over political sentiment.
He added that economic challenges affect all Nigerians regardless of religion or region, stressing that national recovery requires merit-based leadership.
Transportation Legacy and Political Experience
During his tenure as Minister of Transportation, Amaechi oversaw major railway projects including the Abuja–Kaduna and Lagos–Ibadan rail lines.
However, those projects also attracted criticism from some analysts who questioned the cost and debt implications.
Amaechi previously served as Governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015 and played a key role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), later serving as Director-General of the 2015 presidential campaign.
ADC Primary Race and Political Positioning
Speaking on the upcoming party primaries, Amaechi said he prefers a direct primary system but is open to consensus arrangements if they favour his candidacy.
He maintained that he will participate in the process regardless of the structure adopted by the party.
His declaration comes as opposition parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections amid shifting alliances and political realignments.
