Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has raised concerns over alleged threats he received following his comments about governance issues in Northern Nigeria.
The activist disclosed this in a video shared on his official social media page, claiming that some individuals reacted negatively to his recent remarks.
According to VDM, some influencers from the region criticised his comments, while others allegedly sent threatening messages.
Activist says criticism targets politicians
VDM said his remarks were not aimed at ordinary Nigerians living in the North but were directed at political leaders and their handling of issues affecting the region.
He argued that challenges such as insecurity, poverty and limited economic opportunities should be addressed through better governance.
The activist maintained that he was not intimidated by the alleged threats and said he would continue to speak on issues he considers important.
VDM discusses Northern Nigeria challenges
The social media personality described many Northern Nigerians as hardworking and honest people, arguing that the region’s struggles are connected to leadership and policy decisions.
He also criticised some government empowerment initiatives, questioning whether certain programmes provide long-term solutions for citizens.
VDM referenced a recent empowerment activity in Kano State where plates were reportedly distributed to beneficiaries, saying such efforts do not address deeper economic challenges.
Calls for focus on leadership issues
The activist urged critics to direct their concerns toward government officials responsible for policies and development rather than attacking individuals raising questions.
He said public discussions should focus on finding solutions to insecurity, economic hardship and other challenges affecting communities.
