Iran Raises Concerns Over US Visas Ahead Of 2026 World Cup

“Iran national team faces US visa uncertainty ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup”

Iran has raised concerns over delays in the visa process for its national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The president of Iran’s football federation, Mehdi Taj, confirmed that no visas had been issued yet to players or officials travelling for the global tournament.

According to him, the federation plans to hold urgent discussions with FIFA to seek guarantees regarding the visa situation.

Iran Yet To Receive US Visas

Speaking to local media, Taj explained that the visa issue remains unresolved despite preparations already underway for the tournament.

He said the team is expected to complete fingerprinting and visa documentation procedures in Ankara, although officials are trying to move the process to Antalya to reduce travel stress on players.

The uncertainty has sparked concerns among fans and football observers, especially as the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches.

Political Tensions Add To Concerns

The visa issue comes amid ongoing political tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

Although a ceasefire has reportedly reduced hostilities in recent weeks, diplomatic relations between Iran and the United States have remained strained for decades.

The two countries have not maintained formal diplomatic ties since 1980 following the aftermath of the Iranian Revolution and the US embassy hostage crisis.

Iran Preparing For 2026 FIFA World Cup

Despite the visa concerns, Iran has continued preparations for the tournament.

The national team recently held a send-off ceremony ahead of the competition and is expected to camp in Tucson during the World Cup.

Iran will begin its campaign against New Zealand before facing Belgium and Egypt in Group G.

Football fans are now waiting to see whether FIFA and US authorities can resolve the visa situation before the tournament begins.
