A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has formally declared Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made on Saturday during a special national convention organised by a faction of the party led by Tanimu Turaki in Abuja.
Jonathan Declared Candidate Despite Absence
The former president was not physically present at the convention where delegates reportedly ratified his nomination.
However, party officials proceeded with the declaration, while a Certificate of Return was received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi.
The event took place at the faction’s national secretariat located in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
Convention Draws Party Stakeholders
Delegates and stakeholders aligned with the Turaki-led faction attended the gathering, where the decision to adopt Jonathan as the party’s presidential flag bearer was announced.
The development is expected to generate fresh reactions within the PDP as political activities ahead of the 2027 election continue to intensify.
More Reactions Expected
The declaration comes amid ongoing political realignments and internal developments across major political parties ahead of the next general election.
There has been no immediate reaction from Jonathan regarding the nomination as of the time of filing this report.
Further details are expected to emerge in the coming hours.
