Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has emerged victorious in the African Democratic Congress presidential primary election held in Bayelsa State.
Amaechi defeated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen in the contest as delegates continued voting across states ahead of the party’s final presidential nomination for the 2027 general election.
Amaechi Secures Wide Margin Victory
According to figures released by the African Democratic Congress through its official X account on Tuesday, Amaechi polled 44,404 votes to emerge winner of the Bayelsa presidential primary.
The party disclosed that Atiku secured 6,570 votes to finish second, while Hayatu-Deen received 939 votes.
The result places Amaechi among the leading contenders as the party continues collation of nationwide primary results.
ADC Primaries Continue Nationwide
The Bayelsa exercise forms part of the ongoing ADC presidential primaries taking place across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 election.
Although the party has not officially announced the final national outcome, early results from several states reportedly indicate strong competition among the aspirants.
