Speaking in Hausa, Umar said his father was attacked after returning from the market.

He explained that his father had harvested seven baskets of red pepper, sold them and used the money to buy food items, including rice, for the family.

According to him, his father wanted the family to prepare a meal together before the attack happened.

“He came back after harvesting seven baskets of pepper. He bought food items and rice for us. He wanted us to cook and eat together, but as he was returning from the farm, they killed him,” Umar said.

The boy alleged that the attackers later entered the family home and attacked members of the household.
