A video showing an injured young woman, identified as an 18-year-old wife, has generated widespread concern online after allegations of domestic abuse surfaced.
The footage, shared on social media on Monday, showed the woman with visible injuries while a man identified as her husband confronted people who had intervened.
The incident attracted attention as viewers called for action and support for the woman.
Woman asks people not to arrest husband
In the video, neighbours were heard confronting the man and accusing him of repeatedly assaulting the woman.
Bystanders reportedly urged him to leave her alone during the confrontation.
A second video later showed the woman at what appeared to be a hospital with human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu.
During the interaction, Gwamnishu discussed plans to involve authorities, but the woman pleaded against her husband’s arrest.
She said she no longer wanted to continue the marriage and asked people not to take legal action against him.
Social media users demand intervention
The videos triggered strong reactions online, with many users expressing concern about the woman’s safety and questioning why she appeared reluctant to support possible action against her husband.
Several users called on relevant authorities to investigate the situation.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency responded after being tagged in a post on X, saying it had started looking into the matter.
“We are on it. Thank you for tagging us,” the agency stated.
Domestic violence conversation continues
The incident has renewed discussions about domestic violence, protecting vulnerable individuals and the difficulties that can arise when alleged victims are hesitant to pursue legal steps.
Advocates have continued to stress the importance of proper investigation and support systems for people facing abuse.
The case also highlights how social media platforms are increasingly being used to bring attention to alleged abuse cases and connect victims with possible assistance.
