The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja as proceedings in his case continue.
Sowore, who is also the publisher of Sahara Reporters, was brought to the court from the Kuje Correctional Centre, where he has been remanded.
The activist arrived at the court on Wednesday and was seen engaging with some lawyers before the hearing commenced.
Court had ordered continued detention
The development follows an earlier order by Justice Mohammed Garba Umar directing that Sowore remain in custody pending the hearing and determination of his application seeking a stay of the order that revoked his bail and issued a bench warrant.
Following the court order, Sowore was taken into custody by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), who transferred him to correctional authorities.
Supporters gather at court
Several activists and supporters of the AAC candidate were present at the court premises as they awaited further developments from the proceedings.
The case has continued to attract attention due to Sowore’s political activities and his role as an activist and media publisher.
DSS case against Sowore
The Department of State Services is prosecuting Sowore over allegations connected to comments he made about President Bola Tinubu on his social media platforms.
The agency alleges that the activist made a false claim against the president through a post shared on his X and Facebook accounts.
