Lagos State University has described its latest admission record as proof of its rapid rise among Africa’s fastest-growing universities.
The institution made the statement after recording 84,326 first-choice applications in the latest statistics released during the 2026 JAMB Policy Meeting on Admissions held in Abuja.
According to the university, this is the second consecutive year it has emerged as Nigeria’s most preferred university by admission seekers.
LASU ranked ahead of University of Lagos, which recorded 78,240 applications, while Obafemi Awolowo University followed with 60,370 applications.
In a statement shared on its official social media platforms, the university said the achievement reflects growing confidence in its academic system, innovation, and student-focused administration.
The institution noted that strategic investments in teaching, research, infrastructure, and digital innovation have contributed to its rapid growth over the years.
LASU explained that before 2023, it was not among the top 10 most subscribed universities in Nigeria.
However, the university rose to third position in 2023 with over 55,000 applications.
In 2024, it moved to second position with 62,601 applications before climbing to first place in 2025 with more than 70,000 applicants.
The university stated that the latest figure of 84,326 applications further strengthens its position as one of Africa’s fastest-rising higher institutions.
Vice-Chancellor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello thanked the Lagos State Government for its continued support and leadership.
She also praised staff and students for helping to improve the institution’s reputation both locally and internationally.
According to Olatunji-Bello, the latest achievement validates the university’s vision of becoming a globally competitive institution driven by excellence, innovation, and impactful scholarship.
She added that LASU remains committed to maintaining high standards in teaching, research, community service, and human capital development.
The vice-chancellor also assured prospective students that the university would continue to provide a conducive learning environment and industry-relevant programmes designed to prepare graduates for global success.
LASU’s steady rise in national admission rankings highlights the increasing demand for quality education and the university’s growing influence within Nigeria’s higher education sector.
