The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has rejected the reported suspension of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by former Directorate of State (DOS) head Chika Edoziem.
The group described the action as unlawful and without authority, insisting that Kanu’s decision to dissolve the previous DOS administration and appoint a new leadership structure remains valid.
Dispute Emerges Over IPOB Leadership
The disagreement followed Kanu’s announcement dissolving the third administration of the Directorate of State and replacing it with a new structure led by Chris Nwaogu.
Following the announcement, Edoziem reportedly declared that Kanu had been suspended from the organisation’s leadership.
IPOB has now challenged the move, arguing that the former DOS leadership no longer had the authority to take such action.
Group Defends Kanu’s Authority
In a statement, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful said the dissolution of the previous administration was carried out according to the group’s internal rules.
The organisation maintained that its leader has the authority to appoint and remove principal officers under its governing framework.
According to IPOB, decisions taken after the dissolution of the former administration cannot represent the official position of the group.
IPOB Warns Against Unauthorised Statements
The group urged members to disregard communications from individuals it says no longer hold recognised positions within the organisation.
IPOB stated that official messages would only come through approved leadership channels.
It also emphasised the importance of discipline and adherence to its internal structure.
