Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries, alleging widespread irregularities and voter disenfranchisement during the exercise.

Amaechi made his position known in a statement shared on his official X account on Tuesday, where he described the results as “concocted.”

Amaechi Raises Concerns Over Voting Process

The former Rivers State governor said he had previously stated that he would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.

According to him, the conduct of the election failed to reflect the democratic principles the party promised to uphold.

Amaechi alleged that a large number of party members across the country were prevented from participating in the voting process.

Allegations Of Electoral Malpractice

The former minister claimed that nearly 80 percent of party members were allegedly denied the opportunity to vote during the primaries.

He also accused the ADC of engaging in practices similar to those it had previously criticised in other political parties and electoral processes.

According to Amaechi, the party cannot condemn vote buying, rigging and result manipulation while allegedly allowing similar actions within its own internal election.

ADC Primary Controversy Deepens

The development adds to growing tensions surrounding the ADC presidential primaries ahead of the 2027 general election.

Political observers say the dispute could affect internal unity within the party as opposition groups continue political realignments across the country.

The ADC leadership is yet to officially respond to Amaechi’s allegations at the time of filing this report.
