The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Federal Government’s plan to reintegrate former insurgents, describing it as a “dangerous softness” on terrorism.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said terrorism should not be treated as a family dispute or addressed with what it described as “compassionate” language.
Concerns Over Transparency
The ADC argued that the proposed reintegration policy lacks transparency, accountability, and clear safeguards for affected communities.
It warned that prioritising rehabilitation without ensuring justice could undermine national security and send the wrong signal to victims of insurgency.
Call for Clear Process
The party also raised concerns over the absence of a defined process for assessing individuals eligible for reintegration.
According to the ADC, there is little clarity on how former insurgents would be monitored after returning to society.
Demand for Firm Approach
The ADC maintained that Nigeria’s response to terrorism must remain firm and lawful, with a focus on justice for victims and protection of communities.
