President Bola Tinubu has submitted the name of Professor Abayomi Sunday-Fashina to the Senate for confirmation as a non-career ambassador/high commissioner-designate.

The nomination was announced during Wednesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The move is part of the president’s ongoing ambassadorial appointments as the administration continues to fill diplomatic positions.

Senate receives presidential request

In a letter presented to the Senate, President Tinubu requested that lawmakers consider and approve the nomination.

The president referenced relevant constitutional provisions guiding ambassadorial appointments and appealed to the Senate to treat the request with urgency.

The letter was addressed to the Senate President and members of the upper chamber.

Confirmation process begins

Professor Abayomi Fashina’s nomination will now undergo Senate consideration before a final decision is made.

If confirmed, he will serve as a non-career ambassador/high commissioner representing Nigeria’s diplomatic interests.
