The Oyo State House of Assembly has cancelled plans for its third anniversary celebration following growing security concerns across parts of the state.
The lawmakers announced the decision during plenary, explaining that recent security challenges in areas including Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso made it inappropriate to hold elaborate celebrations.
Assembly Prioritises Security Over Celebration
Rather than proceed with anniversary activities, the legislature said it would focus on governance and supporting efforts aimed at improving safety for residents.
Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin, stated that the decision was taken after considering the situation facing communities affected by insecurity.
Three Years of Legislative Activities
The 10th Oyo State Assembly was inaugurated in June 2023, marking three years of legislative work.
According to the Speaker, the Assembly has passed several bills and resolutions aimed at improving governance and development across the state.
Lawmakers Highlight Achievements
Ogundoyin disclosed that the Assembly had passed 36 bills into law and adopted hundreds of resolutions forwarded to relevant government agencies.
He added that oversight activities have continued to ensure implementation and accountability.
Security Remains a Major Focus
The Speaker noted that the legislature has also reviewed key security-related laws and organised stakeholder engagements to address challenges affecting residents.
The Assembly said it remains committed to its duties despite the security situation in parts of Oyo State.
