Reports from The Athletic indicate that the decision is linked to an ongoing investigation involving match-fixing allegations, which Canadian immigration authorities considered during the visa process.

The development comes shortly after Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey was also unable to travel to Canada for his country’s opening World Cup game.
Partey was reportedly denied entry over allegations of sexual assault, which he has faced, preventing him from featuring in Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama.
FIFA has previously stated that visa decisions for World Cup host countries are handled by the relevant governments and not the football governing body.
