Southampton F.C. have paid tribute following the death of former Nigerian winger Victor Udoh, who passed away at the age of 21.
The tragic news was confirmed on Tuesday, with messages of condolence pouring in from clubs linked to the young Nigerian footballer during his career in Europe.
Southampton Pays Emotional Tribute to Victor Udoh
Udoh spent six months with Southampton’s academy setup after joining the English club in February 2025.
During his time on the south coast, he featured in eight Premier League 2 matches for the club’s Under-21 side and scored two goals.
Reacting to the news of his death, Southampton expressed deep sadness in an official statement shared on social media.
“We are devastated by the tragic passing of former player Victor Udoh at the age of 21,” the club stated.
“The thoughts of everyone at the club go out to Victor’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time.”
Royal Antwerp Also Reacts to Victor Udoh Death
Before moving to England, Udoh developed through the academy system of Royal Antwerp F.C. in Belgium.
The Nigerian winger impressed for the club’s reserve side, popularly known as the “Young Reds,” where he scored 12 goals in 27 matches.
He later progressed to the senior team and made 28 appearances for Antwerp.
Following reports of his passing, the Belgian club also released a heartfelt tribute.
“With great dismay, RAFC has learned of the passing of former player Victor Udoh,” the statement read.
“Our thoughts are with Victor’s family, friends, and loved ones.”
Career Move to Czech Republic
After leaving Southampton in September, Udoh continued his career in Europe by joining SK Dynamo České Budějovice in the Czech Republic’s second division.
The winger had been regarded as one of the promising Nigerian talents abroad, with experience across Belgium, England and the Czech Republic despite his young age.
