Senator Ned Nwoko has reaffirmed his claim of victory in the Delta North All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary, maintaining that party members overwhelmingly backed his candidacy across the district.
The lawmaker called on the national leadership of the APC to uphold what he described as the democratic choice of party members and resist any attempt to alter the outcome of the primary election.
‘I Won in 97 of 98 Wards’
In a statement issued through his media office, Nwoko said he secured victories in 97 out of the 98 wards where the exercise was conducted.
According to him, the result reflected the clear wishes of APC members who participated in the primary election across Delta North.
The senator further claimed that he recorded about 123,000 votes, while former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa allegedly polled around 6,000 votes.
Call for APC Leadership to Protect the Result
Nwoko urged the APC National Working Committee and other party leaders to safeguard the integrity of the primary process.
He warned that any move to overturn the outcome could damage confidence in the party’s internal democratic system and alienate supporters who participated in the exercise.
According to him, party members turned out in large numbers to vote, and their decision should be respected.
Senator Cites Video Evidence
The Delta North lawmaker also stated that the election results could be independently verified through video recordings allegedly obtained from wards where the primary election took place.
He argued that the available recordings provide a more reliable account of the exercise and support his claim of victory.
Nwoko questioned any alternative figures that may emerge, insisting that evidence gathered across the district supports the results announced by his supporters.
Political Stakes Rise in Delta APC
The dispute adds a new dimension to political developments within the APC in Delta State ahead of future electoral contests.
With both Nwoko and Okowa regarded as influential figures in Delta politics, party stakeholders are expected to closely monitor how the leadership handles the matter.
