Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticised the administration of Bola Tinubu over worsening insecurity and economic hardship across Nigeria.
Atiku said many Nigerians now treat ransom payments like regular household expenses due to the growing wave of kidnappings and violent attacks.
Atiku Raises Alarm Over Insecurity
In a statement released through his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, the former presidential candidate said travelling in many parts of Nigeria has become increasingly dangerous.
According to him, families now live in fear of receiving calls about abducted relatives.
He argued that insecurity has reached an alarming level, especially in rural communities and along major roads.

Atiku said the increasing frequency of kidnappings has forced many families into financial and emotional distress.
He claimed ransom payments are gradually becoming routine expenses in several homes across the country.
The former Vice President also criticised what he described as government focus on propaganda rather than addressing urgent national challenges.
Food Production and Economy Under Pressure
The opposition figure further linked insecurity to declining agricultural production, saying many farmers can no longer safely access their farmlands.
According to him, the situation has worsened food shortages and contributed to rising prices nationwide.
Atiku maintained that although borrowing is not entirely wrong, Nigeria’s growing debt profile has not translated into improved living conditions for citizens.

The remarks have triggered fresh political debate as opposition voices continue to criticise the federal government’s handling of the economy and national security.
The comments are also expected to intensify discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
