Former presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, has thrown her support behind former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary.
Onochie said Atiku remains the strongest option for the party if it hopes to compete effectively in the 2027 general election.
The former aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari made the remarks in a statement released before the party’s presidential primary election.
Onochie Backs Atiku Ahead of ADC Presidential Primary
Speaking on the upcoming contest, Onochie said politics requires strategy, national acceptance, and leadership capacity.
According to her, the Atiku ADC presidential primary race should focus on electability rather than emotions or sentiments.
She stated that Atiku possesses the experience and political network needed to lead the party into a competitive national election.
“Politics is not about sentiments. It is about preparedness, capacity, national reach and the ability to govern effectively,” she said.
Atiku’s Experience Highlighted
Onochie noted that Atiku Abubakar has remained one of the most recognised political figures in Nigeria over the years.
She said the former vice president has demonstrated resilience, coalition-building ability and economic understanding across different political cycles.
According to her, these qualities make him a strong contender in the Atiku ADC presidential primary process.
She added that the party must focus on selecting a candidate capable of transforming political ambition into governance.

Several political stakeholders have continued to debate who stands the best chance of challenging the ruling party at the national level.
Onochie maintained that Atiku’s national structure and political experience place him in a strong position within the race.
She said the party’s decision during the Atiku ADC presidential primary could shape its future performance in the next general election.
