The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed the arrest of two candidates and a parent for allegedly falsifying 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results using Artificial Intelligence and other digital tools.
The suspects were reportedly involved in manipulating official result notifications sent via SMS in an attempt to deceive parents and guardians.
Arrest Linked to Result Manipulation
JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed the development in a statement released on Friday.
He said the suspects were caught altering official SMS result messages sent through JAMB’s designated platforms.
According to him, the actions involved the use of AI tools and electronic methods to fabricate or modify examination scores.
JAMB Issues Strong Warning
The board described the act as a serious criminal offence and warned that all individuals involved would be prosecuted.
JAMB also cautioned candidates against tampering with official messages sent from its verified SMS channels, including 55019 and 66019.
Over 632,000 Results Released
The announcement came as JAMB released UTME 2026 results for 632,788 candidates who sat for the examination on April 16.
Candidates can check their results by sending “UTMERESULT” via SMS to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number used during registration.
Results Released in Batches
JAMB explained that UTME 2026 results will continue to be released in batches as the examination progresses nationwide.
The examination, which began on April 16, is scheduled to run until April 22 across accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
Strong Message on Exam Integrity
The board reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of the examination system and warned against all forms of malpractice, including digital manipulation of results.
Authorities say strict monitoring systems remain in place to ensure credibility and fairness in the 2026 UTME exercise.
