According to Nollywood filmmaker Stanley Ontop, Alex Ekubo had been secretly battling stage 4 liver cancer since 2024.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Stanley Ontop explained that the actor underwent treatment and later received a liver transplant in an effort to save his life.
He stated that Alex briefly returned to work after the transplant procedure. However, complications later developed after the transplanted liver reportedly failed again.
Stanley wrote that the actor’s condition continued to worsen until his death.
He also appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information about the late actor’s illness and passing.
According to him:
“Alex was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2024. After undergoing treatment and a liver transplant, he briefly returned to work. Unfortunately, the liver failed again and complications arose.”
