The Court of Appeal of Nigeria sitting in Abuja has confirmed the suspension of several officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the party’s former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
Others affected by the ruling include the party’s National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, Deputy Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha, and National Organizing Secretary Umaru Bature.
Court Backs Earlier High Court Judgment
In its decision, the appellate court upheld the earlier judgment delivered by James Omotosho of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.
The ruling reaffirmed the legality of the suspension imposed on the party officials.
Background to the Dispute
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP had suspended the officials on November 1, 2025, following internal disagreements within the party.
In addition, the earlier Federal High Court judgment had restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the outcome of the party’s 2025 National Convention.
The appellate court’s ruling now reinforces that earlier decision, adding another layer to the ongoing internal challenges facing the opposition party.
