Bruno Onyemaechi has welcomed his first child, a development that could see him miss Nigeria’s upcoming friendly match against Jordan.
The Super Eagles defender left the team’s camp in Antalya to be with his partner following the birth.
Onyemaechi first child announcement
Onyemaechi confirmed the news on social media by sharing a photo of himself holding his newborn.
He captioned the post:
“Best gift ever.”
His partner, Ines Fontes, had earlier announced her pregnancy at the beginning of March.
Doubt over Jordan friendly appearance
The 26-year-old was absent from Nigeria’s training session after the 2-1 win over Iran.
Players are usually granted time off following the birth of a child, making his availability for the Jordan game uncertain.
Super Eagles send congratulations
The official Super Eagles social media account congratulated Onyemaechi and his partner on the birth of their child.
The news has also attracted goodwill messages from fans and teammates.
Nigeria have cover in defence
Head coach Eric Chelle still has options at left-back.
Zaidu Sanusi is available and could step in if Onyemaechi does not return in time for the match.
