Nigeria national football team have retained their position at 26th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, following their performances in the March international window.

Super Eagles maintain global position
Nigeria secured a 2–1 victory over Iran in a friendly match, earning valuable ranking points against a higher-rated opponent.
However, a 2–2 draw against Jordan led to a slight deduction, as the Middle Eastern side are ranked significantly lower.
Despite these results, Nigeria’s total points stand at 1585.09, enough to maintain their global standing.
How FIFA ranking system works
FIFA rankings are calculated using the Elo rating system.
This method considers:
- Match results
- Strength of opposition
- Match importance
- Expected outcomes
Wins against stronger teams yield higher points, while dropped points against weaker sides result in deductions.
Nigeria’s recent progress
Nigeria’s current position marks their highest ranking in 16 years.
The Super Eagles last achieved a higher ranking in May 2010, when they were placed 21st globally.
Their recent rise follows a strong outing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where they finished third.
Africa’s top-ranked teams
Morocco remain the highest-ranked African team, sitting eighth globally.
Senegal are second on the continent despite dropping to 14th in the world.
Nigeria are currently third in Africa, ahead of Algeria, Egypt and Ivory Coast.
Global top 10 rankings
France have moved to the top of the global rankings.
They are followed by Spain and Argentina, with England, Portugal, Brazil, Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium and Germany completing the top 10.
