Speaking in an interview, Liya said her decision to leave DMW in 2023 was influenced by her desire to improve her life and career.
According to her, the period she spent at the label came with serious emotional challenges.
“I just wanted more for myself, as a person and as an artist,” she said.

Liya explained that she experienced depression, exhaustion, and health issues during her time at the label.
She said these struggles affected her wellbeing and forced her to make a difficult decision.
“It was sad, it was depressing, I was tired, I was sick, but it was a decision I had to make,” she added.

The singer also addressed criticism from fans who believed she was not active enough.
She said many people misunderstood her situation and wrongly labelled her as lazy.
“They said I wasn’t doing anything, but they didn’t know what I was going through,” she explained.
Social media absence explained
Liya further revealed that she did not personally manage her Instagram account for over two years.
She said her manager handled her account while she focused on her health.
Despite the challenges, she expressed gratitude to her manager for his patience and support.

Liya joined DMW in 2020 as the first female artiste signed by Davido.
During her time at the label, she released songs like “Melo,” “Adua,” and “Lakiriboto,” which helped her gain recognition.
