The Lagos State Waste Management Authority has confirmed the clearance of the Alaba Rago setback located along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.
The agency said the operation targeted illegal trading activities, squatters and unauthorised structures occupying sections of the expressway corridor.

The Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the enforcement exercise became necessary due to persistent indiscriminate waste disposal and obstruction of sanitation activities along the corridor.
He added that the illegal occupation of the expressway setback created environmental and public infrastructure concerns.
Government Warns Against Encroachment
According to Gbadegesin, road setbacks are not approved locations for trading, habitation or commercial activities.

He urged traders and residents within the axis to use approved market spaces and designated waste disposal systems.
Illegal Waste Carts Seized During Operation
The agency disclosed that several carts belonging to illegal waste handlers and cart pushers were confiscated during the exercise.

The operation was jointly carried out by LAWMA, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.
Enforcement Followed Expiration of Removal Notice
Gbadegesin stated that the operation commenced after authorities issued a three-day removal notice to occupants within the affected corridor.
He said the government would continue enforcing environmental laws to protect sanitation standards and environmental sustainability in different parts of the state.

Recent reports indicate that the area is currently undergoing demolition and redevelopment projects as part of wider urban and environmental reforms.
