Gbenga Daniel has publicly challenged Dapo Abiodun to a live television debate over the growing political dispute surrounding the Ogun East Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former governor issued the challenge during a television interview, insisting that the governor should publicly defend his position on the political issues currently causing tension within the ruling party in Ogun State.
Daniel stated that refusing to participate in the debate would be viewed as an admission of defeat.

The disagreement between the two senior members of All Progressives Congress has intensified in recent weeks following moves by party stakeholders to endorse Governor Abiodun as a consensus candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial seat.
However, Daniel rejected the arrangement and demanded an open primary election process.
The senator argued that political contests should remain transparent and democratic rather than being decided through internal agreements.

During the interview, Gbenga Daniel urged the television station to organise a joint appearance involving both politicians.

Daniel also warned that silence from the governor would send a strong political message to the public.

The former governor further reminded Abiodun that his tenure as governor would soon come to an end.
He suggested that certain political actions and decisions had crossed important boundaries within the party structure.
Daniel also claimed he had previously warned the governor about individuals around him who could negatively affect his administration and political future.
