The late cameraman of Channels Television, Kani Ben, has been laid to rest following his death in a tragic road accident while on official duty.
The 44-year-old journalist was buried on Saturday in Kangling, Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State, as family members, colleagues and government officials paid their final respects.
Ben reportedly sustained fatal injuries in a motor accident that occurred along Duguri Road while covering the commissioning of projects by the North East Development Commission (NEDC). The crash involved 14 occupants, including journalists from different media organisations, many of whom were injured.
During the burial ceremony, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and members of the media community. Represented by the Commissioner for Information, Usman Shehu Usman, the governor announced that Ben’s wife would be offered employment in the Bauchi State civil service as a form of support to the family.
The governor had earlier visited injured journalists receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) and directed that proper medical care be provided.
In separate remarks, officials of the NEDC also sympathised with the family, describing the late cameraman as hardworking and committed to his profession. Media aides who spoke at the event praised his dedication to documenting events across the region.
Religious leaders at the burial prayed for comfort for the family and strength for colleagues in the journalism profession.
