Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi is on the verge of achieving a major career milestone as he prepares to make his 100th appearance for the Super Eagles.
The Fulham midfielder is expected to reach the landmark when Nigeria take on Portugal in an international friendly at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria.
Iwobi Closing in on Super Eagles Century Club
Iwobi, who is now 30 years old, has earned 99 caps for Nigeria since making his senior international debut.
A 100th appearance would place him among an exclusive group of Nigerian players who have reached the century mark for the national team.
The list includes former captains such as Ahmed Musa, Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama.
Ten Years of Service to Nigeria
Iwobi has represented the Super Eagles for more than a decade, having committed his international future to Nigeria after previously featuring for England at youth level.
He made his senior debut for the three-time African champions in a friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2015.
Since then, he has become a regular figure in Nigeria’s midfield setup, featuring at major international tournaments and qualifiers.
From Arsenal Academy to Super Eagles Regular
The midfielder developed through the youth system at Arsenal FC before moving to Everton FC and later joining Fulham FC.
His versatility, work rate and ability to operate in different attacking roles have made him an important option for Nigeria over the years.
Historic Moment Awaits
If selected against Portugal, Iwobi will officially enter the Super Eagles centurion club and add his name to Nigeria’s football history.
The milestone would mark another significant achievement in a decade-long international career that began in 2015.
