The Abia State Government has raised concern over an alleged plot to stage a protest aimed at destabilising the state.
The warning follows intelligence reports suggesting that certain political actors are planning to mobilise individuals for what authorities described as a coordinated demonstration.
Alleged protest plot uncovered
According to a statement issued by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Alex Otti, the protest is being organised under the slogan “Tinubu Dey Work, Otti Dey Chop.”
The government alleged that individuals are being recruited from Aba and neighbouring states to participate in the planned action.
Government warns of security risks
Authorities described the development as an attempt to push a false narrative regarding projects being executed in the state.
The statement noted that the alleged protest could lead to confrontation with security agencies, particularly the state task force in Aba.
Officials warned that such a situation could escalate into violence, posing risks to lives and property.
Link to political tension ahead of 2027
The government further suggested that the planned protest may be part of broader efforts to create instability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It, however, reiterated its commitment to democratic values and tolerance of opposition.
Residents urged to avoid participation
The state government advised parents and guardians to caution their children against involvement in politically motivated protests.
It assured residents of its resolve to maintain peace, security, and a stable political environment across the state.
