Why Ice Prince Performed at APC Convention Amid Backlash Over Nigeria’s Hardship

Ice Prince APC convention performance

Nigerian rapper Ice Prince has responded to criticism surrounding his appearance at the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The music star faced heavy backlash online after performing at the political event amid growing concerns over insecurity, inflation and economic hardship across Nigeria.

Many social media users questioned why celebrities continue to associate with politicians instead of demanding accountability from the government.

Ice Prince explains APC convention appearance

Speaking during a recent episode of the Black Box podcast, Ice Prince explained that his decision to perform at the APC convention was influenced by his personal relationship with the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.

According to the rapper, the APC chairman is a close family member and not just a political associate.

“Who booked me for that event? My uncle – Nentawe Yilwatda who is the APC Chairman. He is not just a random person to me. He is my real uncle,” Ice Prince said.

Singer faced criticism on social media

The performance sparked reactions on X and other social platforms, with some Nigerians accusing the rapper of ignoring the struggles faced by ordinary citizens.

Critics argued that entertainers should use their influence to speak against insecurity and rising living costs instead of participating in political events.

However, supporters of the rapper defended his decision, saying artists are free to perform at any event regardless of political affiliation.

Ice Prince remains active in entertainment industry

Despite the controversy, Ice Prince continues to remain active in Nigeria’s entertainment scene with podcast appearances, performances and music projects.

The rapper recently made headlines after revealing details about his past lifestyle and personal transformation journey.
