The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of seven individuals, including serving military personnel and police officers, over their alleged involvement in a coordinated armed robbery syndicate operating across several cities.
The suspects are accused of participating in a series of attacks linked to gold-related fraud and violent robberies in Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi, and Takoradi.
Sting Operation Leads to Multiple Arrests
According to a statement released on the Police Service’s official platforms, the arrests were carried out by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police.
The investigation began after an Ivorian investor, identified as Mousa Bamba, reported a violent incident involving a fake gold purchase deal.
He allegedly met suspects who posed as Criminal Investigation Department officers and military personnel before robbing him at gunpoint.
Suspects Posed as Security Officers
Police say the victim was lured to the Dzorwulu area under the pretext of purchasing six kilograms of gold valued at $450,000.
On arrival, the suspects reportedly impersonated security operatives before executing the robbery and fleeing the scene.
The complaint triggered an intelligence-led investigation that led to the first wave of arrests.
Security Personnel Among Those Arrested
Further investigations reportedly linked additional suspects to the criminal network, including serving soldiers and police officers.
The arrested military personnel include Lance Corporals Eugene Akurugu and Emmanuel Arko, also known as “Bullet.”
Police officers implicated include Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor, and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga.
Authorities confirmed that the officers have been interdicted to allow for full disciplinary and criminal investigations.
Ongoing Investigations Into Syndicate Network
The Ghana Police Service stated that additional suspects were arrested between May 23 and May 24, 2026, as part of continued intelligence operations.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members connected to the alleged syndicate.
“All suspects are currently in Police custody assisting investigations,” the statement added.
