The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Nyesom Wike, has announced that the proposed FCT University of Science and Technology located in Abaji will begin academic activities during the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Wike made the statement while addressing residents during a visit to Abaji on Tuesday. The visit was also used to appreciate voters for supporting candidates of the ruling party in the recent area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
Infrastructure Development Ongoing
According to the minister, the FCT Administration has already started putting in place key infrastructure required for the take-off of the university.
He explained that facilities and other essential structures are being developed to ensure the institution begins operations successfully.
Wike appealed to residents to remain patient, assuring them that the project would be completed within the tenure of President Tinubu.
Economic Benefits for Abaji
The minister noted that the establishment of the university would bring significant benefits to Abaji and the surrounding communities.
He said the institution would not only expand educational opportunities but also stimulate economic growth and create jobs for residents.
Appreciation to Residents
During his address, Wike thanked the people of Abaji for their political support, particularly during the February 21 area council elections.
He emphasized the importance of acknowledging communities that show support for government policies and leadership.
Development Projects in the Area
The minister also promised to address major infrastructure challenges affecting some communities in the area.
He pledged to tackle gully erosion affecting two communities and revive a 15-kilometre abandoned road project linking them. Plans were also announced for the construction of a bridge at Gurara Market.
Local Government Chairman Reacts
Speaking earlier, the outgoing chairman of Abaji Area Council, Abubakar Abdullahi, said the community had experienced noticeable development since Wike assumed office as minister.
He added that several projects executed in the council contributed to the strong electoral support received by the ruling party in the area.
