2027 election: Senate Leader cautions APC members against opposition alliances

Opeyemi Bamidele speaking at APC stakeholders meeting in Ekiti

The Senate Leader of the 10th National Assembly, Opeyemi Bamidele, has advised members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State to avoid any form of alliance with opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He gave the warning during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ado-Ekiti, where he addressed party members from Ekiti Central Senatorial District.

Warning against internal disloyalty

Bamidele cautioned that internal divisions and alliances with opposition groups could weaken the party’s structure ahead of future elections.

He said opposition parties such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are actively seeking to expand their membership base nationwide.

According to him, any form of dissatisfaction within the APC could be exploited by rival parties for political gain.

Call for unity within APC

The Senate Leader urged members of the party to remain united and committed to strengthening internal cohesion.

He stressed that proper management of internal affairs would help prevent political instability within the party.

Bamidele added that opposition parties were closely monitoring developments within the APC for possible entry points.

Comments on party primaries

Speaking on the upcoming APC primaries, Bamidele explained that all aspirants would participate in the process, either through consensus or direct primaries.

He noted that Nigeria’s electoral system allows both methods of candidate selection.

According to him, even candidates who emerge through consensus must still undergo formal party affirmation.

Advice to aspiring candidates

Bamidele also advised aspirants who may not win party tickets not to see themselves as failures.

He said political outcomes often depend on timing and circumstances, urging members to remain committed to the party regardless of election results.

He encouraged continued loyalty and participation in party activities.

Ekiti APC leadership reacts

Ekiti APC Chairman, Sola Eleshin, commended party members for maintaining unity and political stability in the state.

He expressed confidence in the party’s strength ahead of future elections and urged members to remain focused.

He also noted that efforts would be made to ensure a fair process for all aspirants during primaries.
